York & District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers
(Reg. Charity No. 519097)
Thinking about visiting the Guild for the first time? Here’s what you need to know
We meet at the Yorkshire Farming Museum, Murton Lane, York YO19 5UF You can find a map here. There is a large car park. We meet on the third Saturday of the month. You can find the dates here. Meetings start at 10.30am but members start to arrive from about 10am. We finish at 3pm.
The best meeting to attend for a first visit is one of those called ‘skill share’ in the programme. On these days there isn’t a business meeting or a speaker so people will be available to help you with equipment, give advice and generally make you feel welcome. Of course you can come on any meeting day.
Tea and coffee are available for a 50p contribution. It’s a good idea to bring your own lunch the first time until you find out what food the café is serving, if it is open.
The cost for a visitor is £4.50 for the day. If you decide to become a member by the end of the day (the annual subscription is £30) then this is deducted from your membership fee.
You can borrow equipment, which includes a spinning wheel, weaving loom, carding drum, blending board, inkle loom and drop spindle, for the day and can borrow equipment to take home at no extra cost once you are a member. Of course you can bring any equipment of your own.
You don’t need to tell us in advance that you’re coming, but if there’s anything else you need to know, please contact the Secretary, Madeline: 07811 393123/ 01904 784274/ firstname.lastname@example.org
